Frequently Asked Questions

Q.   Where is Camp Russell located?

A.   Camp Russell is located in Glocester, Rhode Island, close to the Glocester-Smithfield line. It is bound on the north side by       Putnam Pike (Route 44) and on the south side by Waterman Lake.

 

Q.  Is Camp Russell a private or public camp?

A.  Camp Russell is a private camp with approximately 60 privately-owned seasonal cottages situated on land owned by Linda Steere and managed by Camp Russell, LLC.

 

Q.  How would I acquire a cottage in Camp Russell?

A.  Cottages are sold by the cottage owner as a private sale.  Prospective new owners must acquire the approval of the camp management and must submit to a credit and criminal background check.

 

Q.  What is the duration of the camp season?

A.  Camp Russell cottages are owner-occupied from May 15th through October 15th of each year.

 

Q.  What are the fees associated with owning a Camp Russell cottage?

A.  Fees vary depending on the dimensions of the cottage, the space on which it is situated, and its proximity to Waterman Lake. Please contact management regarding seasonal fees.

 

Q.  Is there a camp association affiliated with Camp Russell?

A.  The Camp Russell Association is made up of cottage owners.  The association runs camp events such as the children's Fishing Derby and Field Day. Membership is mandatory.  Currently, the annual membership fee is $30.

 

Q.  Are pets allowed in camp?

A.  Cats and small dogs are allowed in camp. However, dogs listed on the Blacklisted Dog Breeds named by insurance companies, or any mixes thereof, are not allowed on Camp Russell property.

 

Q.  Can I have a boat at Camp Russell?

A.  Camp owners can rent a slip for a seasonal fee. Boat slips do not go with the sale of cottages. You must speak to Camp Russell management to sign up for dock slips. Current fees are approximately $250, but are subject to increase each year. Motor boats and jet skis are preferred. Shoreline space exists for canoes and kayaks. Boats must be registered to the camp owner and a copy of a current registration must be on file at the camp office. There is currently no room for pontoon boats.  However, names can be placed on a waiting list for a future pontoon boat slip.

 

Q.  Can I purchase a cottage and rent it out?

A.  Absolutely not! Cottages are owner occupied and are not allowed to be rented, sublet, etc.

 

Q.  Can my friends and family use my cottage and Camp Russell facilities in my absence?

A.  No. Registered owners, spouse, and children currently residing with you are allowed to reside in the cottage and use the facilities. Other family members and friends are not allowed in camp unless they are in camp as your guest.

 

Q.  How many parking places are assigned to each cottage?

A.  You will be allowed two parking spaces per cottage. Guest parking will be determined by management. We reserve the right to assign parking spaces.

 

Q.  What about my utilities (electric, propane, cable, etc.)?

A.  All utilities are the responsibility of the cottage owner. Management provides trash pick-up, water (water rates do apply), and a seasonal lifeguard.
